Reiki - Spiritual Energy

Reiki - What is it?

Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) is a Japanese word meaning "Spiritual energy". However, it has previously been translated to mean "universal energy" as the term spiritual was not the focus of the Western practice in the twentieth century.

Mikao Usui (1865-1926) did not call this practice Reiki, but this explained what his teachings were. Generally his teachings was called "Usui dô" meaning "the way of Usui", and his healings were known as "Usui teate" meaning "Usui hands-on-healing". Reiki re-aligns one with one's true path, source and spirit. During a Reiki treatment the practitioner re-aligns the client's energy. They clear blockages and strengthen the flow of energy. Reiki treatments last between 30-45 minutes and can be useful for physical, and/or emotional problems. Reiki is a holistic approach to problem solving, which means the practitioner will consider mind, body and spirit as one.
